In Chitrakoot our community project is about sustainability, education, value-based culture and Ancient Indian traditions. We aim to be top of the league with authentic education. Integrity in physical, emotional and spiritual education. Chitrakoot is one of the 250 most backward districts in India. It is ranked as one of the 34 poorest. It is remote and quite cut-off especially for education and Sanskrit. The project will include a boy’s gurukul as well as one for girls which will over time start boarding facilities, there will also be ordinary schools for tribal and under-privileged children. We also are going to work with women’s empowerment projects that will also help reduce child labour. We want to involve older people in the community with an old people’s home. A cow sanctuary will provide not only the community’s milk and ghee needs but also provide biogas for the kitchen. Farming will be organic using old methods and sustainable energy will be provided through solar power. Buildings will be as environmentally friendly as possible using natural materials such as mud, wood and perhaps gypsum. 18 acres of land has been and we are looking for corporate, foundation and individual supporters to help take this project to the next stage.

Our new project in Chitrakoot

We are in the process of purchasing 18 acres of land where we plan to create a wonderful community project built on the foundations of sustainability, education, value-based culture and Ancient Indian traditions.

In Varanasi we have become renowned for offering an authentically all-round education of an exceptionally high standard, and in Chitrakoot we will have the opportunity to offer the benefits of this education to many more children who desperately need it.

Why Chitrakoot?
  • it’s 1 of the 250 most backward districts in India.
  • it’s ranked as one of the 34 poorest.
  • it’s remote and cut-off on all fronts but especially for education and Sanskrit.
We will create:
  • a separate boy’s and girl’s Vedic boarding school/gurukul (starting with boy’s boarding facilities followed by the girl’s at a second stage).
  • schools for tribal and under-privileged children • women’s empowerment projects that will also help reduce child labour.
  • an old people’s home including projects to involve older people in the community.
  • A cow sanctuary, which will provide not only the community’s milk and ghee needs but also provide biogas for the kitchen.
  • A sustainable, organic farm using old methods.
  • sustainable energy through solar power.
  • sustainable energy through solar power.
  • accommodation as environmentally friendly as possible (rogue apostrophe deleted from here!) using natural materials such as mud, wood and possibly gypsum.
How you can help:
  • We are looking for corporate, foundation and individual supporters to help take this project to the next stage.
