This is the seed from which this project has grown. According to UNESCO 90% of underprivileged children in India remain illiterate after 4 years of schooling. We offer tuition in basic literacy to local children and those from migrant families, with the objective of bringing them up to the academic standard of whatever class they are in at school (if they are at any school).
We welcome children aged from two and a half to eighteen. We currently have six different classes and expand the number of teachers according to the number of children. They study all core academic subjects such as English, Hindi, Maths, Sanskrit, Science and computer studies. We have reading hour from 4-5pm on weekdays using the Ladybird Peter & Jane Keyword books which we have been collecting for the last 3 years, and thanks to many of your kind donations, we finally have 30 sets!
Art & Craft at the weekends is guided by Asst. Prof Suresh K Nair from BHU (one of the country’s top Universities). We have introduced Classical Dance which is hugely popular. They are taught many styles, including Bharatnatyam, and have recently started weekly classical singing classes.
